With the new year coming, why not challenge yourself to something new to see how much you actually appreciate things instead of complaining every other minute about what you don’t have. I never thought the day would come where I complained more than I was grateful or thankful for things. Not just material things but the simple things in life. I noticed that I not only made myself sick but I know the people around me were sick and tired of me complaining.
So instead of going down to the dumbs I decided to make a change for the better. This challenge wasn’t easy but I took it one day at a time. I know you’re probably wondering what exactly this challenge consists of.
Rules of No Complaining Challenge
- No Complaining. Period!
- Write down your feelings at the time of you getting upset or when you feel your mood change
- Reward yourself(buy yourself something nice after 30 days)
- Talk through it
- Take it 30 days at a time or however you see fit for your goals
- Set goals for things to achieve during this challenge
- Seek happiness
- Find positivity in every situation
- Avoid listening to complaining from other people(it’s bad to say but sometimes you have to focus on your goals without being called selfish)
- Speak in a positive way for every situation
- Live do something nice that you wouldn’t normally do for someone else
- Keep track of what day you are on, journal the experience
- If you see that it’s becoming stressful, re-evaluate your approach
Honestly there are no rules to the complaining challenge: Basically NO COMPLAINING! These are the things that helped me get through this challenge. I made sure to seek things that made me think happy thoughts. I cried through this challenge some days but I did not give up. I was able to successfully publish my first poetry book during this time and I also learned how to tune things out. Some days people would talk and I honestly didn’t hear a word that they were saying, mainly because it was all negativity, crying or complaining. That might seem bad tuning people out but I was working on self love and I couldn’t get myself involved with such energy consuming things.
This challenge has taught me how to not get involved in things that didn’t affect me personally and not get all worked up over things that can not be changed. Everything happens for a reason and don’t get worked up and cause yourself to get sick on something that is only temporary.
People will try to challenge you and stress you out because they are fighting inner battles and instead of facing them, they try to put them off on other people. When you detect that energy step away from it because getting involved will sometimes take away from you. Everybody isn’t ready for help when you are willing to offer it to them, that doesn’t make you a bad person it makes you an aware person. Be aware of your surroundings and the energy that you are attracting to yourself, that is very important to know during this challenge.
Not only do you need to be aware during this challenge but you also need to have fun. Don’t make this a chore but a choice. It’s just like when you choose to be happy instead of being miserable. Choose to be mindful of the thoughts that you are digesting into your body. Don’t let it be a life threatening thought(like it was for me, depression, stress, suicidal thoughts) before you decide to stop complaining and to take over your life; let it be an every day choice to be happy, thankful, grateful and loving.
You should find inner peace and value self love and respect for yourself at the end of this experience. I really hope you all try this challenge if it’s only for a day. Take it one day at a time see how much your life will change.
